A sewer scope inspection puts a camera inside the main sewer line so you can see its condition before you buy the home. The line runs underground, so a standard home inspection cannot see it. Problems in a sewer line are often expensive to fix and often invisible from the surface, which is why a sewer scope inspection is one of the add ons we recommend most for older homes and homes with mature trees.

Why Get a Sewer Scope Inspection

A failing sewer line can back up into the home, soak the yard and cost real money to repair. Finding out before closing lets you negotiate, plan for the repair or walk away. Finding out after closing leaves it with you.

How a Sewer Scope Inspection Works

  1. We find the sewer cleanout, the access point to the line.
  2. We feed a waterproof camera on a flexible cable through the cleanout and run it down the line.
  3. The camera records video the whole way, so we can see and show what is inside the pipe.
  4. We put the video in your report and explain what it shows.

What the Camera Can Show

  • Cracks, breaks or collapsed sections
  • Tree root intrusion
  • Sags or low spots that hold water
  • Offset or separated joints
  • Blockages and heavy buildup
  • The pipe material, such as clay, cast iron or plastic

Video in Your Report

You do not have to take our word for it. The video of your sewer line is included in your report, so you and your agent can see what we saw. A contractor can use the same video to price a repair.
